Welcome To Moto Mail
Good Morning + Happy Monday!
Welcome to the Mile High edition of Moto Mail. We have lots to get into this as MXGP resumed in a rain soaked Portugal causing a ruckus in results but not quite the overall standings.
The Other Lawrence nearly captured his first win but made history in the process. Cooper Webb + Eli Tomac both dealing with wrist issues bad enough to keep one of them out of Pro Motocross.
We seen a 2010’s motocross ICON take the Win in the Yamaha/PulpMX LCQ Challenge adding a cool $20,000+ to his bank acct. More on that in a bit.
We are all tied up atop the 250SX West Region standings as RJ Hampshire and Levi Kitchen will face off in a winner take all battle next weekend in Salt Lake City. The kicker to the situation is that the last round is also an East v. West Showdown. Could we see another Zacho v. Savatgy Vegas 2017?! I sure do hope so.
While those two were fighting for position, Jo Shimoda reminded everyone he hasn’t left the chat. After struggling after making the move to HRC, Shimoda found the speed (and starts) he was looking for to secure his first win of 2024. Better late than never.
Speaking of Osborne v. Savatgy

HUNTA almost does it, but little bro says not quite yet! The Lawrence Brothers split the laps led (12 to 11), It seemed as if Jett was ok sitting behind big bro until Anderson caught a wave mid race and starting closing back up onto Jett. This in-turn forced Jett to make a move on Hunter Lawrence and would check out for the win. Hunter would hold off a charging El Hombre for 2nd and Anderson would round out the podium.
Ghostbusters “Ghost Ride” of the week goes to Justin Barcia; Bam Bam was stuck in no-mans land from start to finish left to chase Jason Anderson and the Brothers Lawrence.
Cooper Webb has been fighting a wrist issue for the last few weeks seemingly causing his arm pump issues. He would settle for a 5th losing another handful of important points on Jett Lawrence.
Chase Sexton tucked the front tire in the first turn, holding up Malcolm Stewart in the process. These 2 would charge back through the pack for a 7th place and 8th place respectively.
Colorado’s own Eli Tomac is also nursing a wrist injury that was sustained in his practice crash(s) in Denver. He would fade back to 10 as the main event clicked by.

The Jo-Sho is back!
RJ let Levi back into the Kitchen. With the 250SX series points all tied up. We are going to let the final race in Salt Lake City decide a first time champion. 2 racers at different ends of their career, RJ Hampshire is a long time vet of the 250 class looks to put a proper punctuation mark on his 250 Career before exploring 450 Class options. While The Chef, Levi Kitchen, in just his 2nd season of supercross looks to add a regional supercross title to his mantle.
Nate Thrasher was fairly invisible, atleast on TV, due to the RJ v. Kitchen v. Shimoda battle we had brewing. While his teammate Jordon Smith had his woes and would settle for 5th place.
Shout out to Brad West for making the main after a hectic 250 LCQ!

Current Supercross Standings
450SX
Nothing really to note here. Cooper Webb is the only remaining rider mathematically able to challenge for the title next weekend barring a complete meltdown from Jettson Lawrence.
The real battle to watch will be for 3rd in points as Chase Sexton and Eli Tomac look to rebound after a So-So race in Denver.
Do you think Hunter Lawrence and Justin Barcia know they are tied for 8th going into SLC?
250SX West
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it one thousand times. If you are going to be trailing someone in this championship fight, you pray it is someone like RJ Hampshire. No disrespect on the man, but the lack of close out ability in his past title fights is giving Levi Kitchen the door he was looking for.
While RJ and Levi were busy tying the points up. Jo Shimoda had the breakout ride we’ve been waiting for since 2021 and put himself to within a race going into the final round next weekend.
